Grant Shapps yesterday hinted that both the Canary Islands and the Balearics, could be the next tourist hot-spots to be added to the UK green list, as soon as the next review.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Shapps confirmed that the popular holiday destinations would be looked at separately, as islands, raising hopes for holidays this summer.

The UK green list does not currently require returning Brits to isolate for any period, but does still require travellers to undertake testing.

The news comes as industry leaders call for a more “sensible” approach to how countries are categorised, warning that the industry is on its knees and won’t survive another summer of turmoil.
